Access to Work

Government funding that pays for the workplace support you need to thrive. We'll guide you through every step of the application.

What is Access to Work?

Access to Work (AtW) is a government-funded scheme that provides practical support to help disabled people and those with health conditions start or stay in work. For neurodivergent individuals, this can cover coaching, assistive technology, workplace mentoring, and more, usually at no cost to you. Employers may need to contribute towards support costs for staff earning above the government earnings threshold.

Who's eligible?

You have a diagnosed neurodivergent condition (ADHD, autism, dyslexia, etc.)

You're employed, self-employed, or about to start a job

You live and work in England, Scotland, or Wales. Northern Ireland has a separate scheme, Access to Work (NI) run by the Department for Communities. We can point you to the right starting point.

What Access to Work can cover

What Happens at Each Active Stage

Timings below describe each stage once it's under way. The gap between applying and being assigned an advisor is currently 8 to 12 months, which is what makes the employer-funded route (below) a realistic alternative for many people.

Stage 1

Apply online or by phone. Gather your diagnosis evidence.

Stage 2

Phone assessment with a DWP assessor about your workplace needs (once your advisor is assigned).

Stage 3

Award letter detailing approved support and funding.

Stage 4

Start receiving support. We match you with providers.
